Update from the cooler glued to her motherboard

Tech Support

Hey! Earlier I posted about a situation where I found glue in my motherborad after my cpu cooler started to fall (two of the four plastic pins gave out) and, when I removed it, I found what looked like glue holding the cooler and the motherboard. I asked here because I’m far from knowledgeable and the shop who did the last maintenance was insisting it wasn't glue and they would never ever even use glue in the first place. All your comments really help ground me in our reality where glue is glue. Thank you so much.

The frustrating update:

I sent this PC to a shop back in decepmer for cleaning, cable management, replacing a GPU (goodbye Nvidia, hi AMD) and a thermal paste, the usual. When I saw the glue residue today I was in pure denial. When I sent them a message they also immediately denied, claiming they’d never use glue. I can now say 100%: THEY GLUED IT.

The glue didn't hold for long causing two of the cooler’s mounting pins to fail, which made the cooler detach slightly, falling over and could probably lead to overheating or some shit I guess. So I stopped using the PC, did my resarch of what could be the problem and ordered new compatible plastic pins. While removing the cooler, I struggled with the other two still stuck parts and yes, I did try to carefully remove the glue residue from the motherboard.

After reassembling, the computer wouldn’t boot. When I posted here for help, and with your support, I stopped second-guessing myself. When I called on their bullshit the shop owner came himself to pick up my PC offering a “free fix” and continued to gaslight me. They confirmed one of the memory sockets is busted. Damaged either when the glued pin failed or when I had to remove a coller I had no idea was glued or when I removed the glue.

My 16ram system is down to 8 for now. They won't take any responsibility. No apology even. I'll don't know If I'll post a review at some point, they are the best reviewed shop in town and this isn't even a small city. I don't know if my review could change anything but, like some people said in the comments, I already know I won't ever be a customer again after this.

We all know what we saw and your comments really helped me have a bit more trust on myself. I'm not crazy, when it looks like glue and works like glue... it is glue. That's how stupid this all feels.

From now on, I’m going to handle my own builds and maintenance. I’ll be saving to build a new editing/gaming rig by the end of the year. It sucks this update is so frustrating, but thank you who commented for giving me the clarity and confidence I needed.

tldr.: PC shop glued my air cooler to the motherboard during a maintenance job last december (I've learned now I should probably have done this myself). They deny the glue. The glued mounting pins failed, leading to a damaged memory socket probably when I finished pulling it off. They won't take responsibility. With help from this community I realize I know much more than I expected about stuff and plan to handle all future maintenance myself. Thanks for all the support <3
