Fractured T 4,5,6 with seizure
In September I had my first seizure while sleeping and fractured thoracic vertebra 4,5,6 in my upper back between my shoulder blades. I was taken to local hospital that then transfered me to bigger hospital with icu. Mri was done and they said I had fractured those vertebra and I needed to be seen for possible kyphoplasty. I use to be a cna and worked in a nursing home so I have some medical knowledge. I did not fall or anything I did the equivalent of a super sit up while seizing and crushed those vertebra. The hospital i was in icu at sent a request on October 2nd to integris the big hospital in okc that I be seen by a neurosurgeon for kyphoplasty they called and scheduled me for November 7th. Went to the appointment expecting a date to get my back fixed and he said after looking at the mri he saw no evidence of fracture and that I couldn't have injured myself that way and that I had most likely pulled muscles in my back and I needed to wait for them to heal. He also said the Breg 456/457 brace wasn't the correct brace for the area that was affected and that if I felt like it was helping I could wear it but that I really didn't need to. I went home and talked to primary care doctor what neurosurgeon had said and he said ok then I guess we wait and see if you get any better. November 21 that morning i had my second seizure got taken to local er had nasal spray that helped calm me down but I don't remember anything until the hospital later that day. No new injury and I had just gotten up and was sitting in living room in a chair I curled again this time my wife was there and saw and used the nasal spray to calm me down till emt got there. Felt like I had just rehurt my back but nothing new. Did eeg weekend test and got seizure meds worked out so that so long as I take them like I'm supposed to I won't have seizures..... but they make me dizzy and I didn't like them..... didn't....... February 4th I have my 3rd seizure because I wasn't taking my Keppra like I was supposed to and I paid for it and learned my lesson.....I fractured t7 in this seizure... again back hurts but no imagining was done because they thought I just re injured myself. February 20th I talk to my primary care Dr about wanting to go see a chiropractor because it felt like I just needed that hug where I cross my arms you put your fist in my back and push into me on the table and it pushed that one back into place. It felt like that's what I needed... well he wouldn't agree without an mri to make sure I wasn't broken..... good thing to because it had fractured t7. He dais no to the chiropractor and sent me to local pain management Dr who does kyphoplasty rather than going to okc because he didn't feel like I got the treatment I needed when we first went. He looked at my mri and said I most certainly had fractured 456 months ago and they had healed wedge shaped and nothing could now be done about those. T7 was fresh so we could still go in and do kyphoplasty on it and see if that helped with the pain. Now what's kyphoplasty imagine your vertebra is a coke can that we stepped on and squished we need to refill the coke can and support it so that it can heal..... so they HAMMER a needle down into your numbed back and put in a lil balloon that they use to reinflate the vertebra and then fill it with special quick harden cement so that its stabilized.....OMG does t7 feel so much better after doing this like I can feel it while he inflated the balloon even all numbed up and felt it getting better. 2 weeks later is the follow up appointment and now I'm kinda mad because I have a standard to set my pain level before and after to and now I really can feel 456 and the almost puppeteer hand that's constantly griping my spine. The pain management dr did an amazing job t7 "feels" great cause I don't feel it he also did a great job explaining everything and how the first 456 injury should have been handled and repaired and how time sensitive kyphoplasty really is. If you break your finger and let it heal we can just snap it almost exactly where you broke it let it heal straightened it's not going to be great but it will work. We just can't do that for a vertebra there's no way to get it to break where needed to even try and reset it. Every day it sits there after being broken your body is sending calcium to that area to try and bridge the gaps and heal your broken bones. This is why it's so important to be seen quickly if kyphoplasty is the treatment plan. So that brings me to my question I've tried contacting lawyers in Oklahoma but they all say the same thing that the litigation team doesn't want to take the case against the neurosurgeon who said nope your not broken you just pulled some muscles go home and rest. We listened to him because he is a NEUROSURGEON at one of the biggest hospitals in the state. By listening to his wait and see it removed the option of kyphoplasty and fixing those vertebra. I hadn't learned all these things it wasn't until talking with the pain management Dr and getting a vertebra fixed that I really understood how bad he screwed me but it seems like no one else understands or cares. I'm an educated person please educate me as to why it's not worth pursuing or why he's not in the wrong I just want to understand...... if you read all that thank you for taking the time I hope you have a great day or night wherever you are.
