1997 Honda CR-V automatic with 298,000 miles.

I went in to get my wife's car tested at emissions. It was fine going in, ran like a dream. Then, when they brought me out of the room to pay, they told me they had to cancel the test early because my car 'had a rattle in the back and they were afraid to get it up to 55mph'

I have no idea what they did to my car, but they swear up and down it couldn't have been them. The moment I started driving, I could tell something was massively wrong. It shuddered so badly that I immediately parked and asked what had happened.

They said they think it might be my drive shaft, that it was just a coincidence, maybe because they engaged all four wheels, and then mumbled something about knuckles and oil pockets. Honestly, they just blew me off. I'm not blaming them, but I'm not NOT blaming them.

I hopped back in the car. I only work about 4-5 miles down the frontage road, so I figured take it to work and have someone pick me up. The moment I got it up to 15mph the shaking went away, but it started squealing like crazy. The low-speed rattle never came back. But the one time I tried to get it up to 35mph, it felt like my back tire was about to fall off, the back end shook so bad.

After that, I drove under 20 all the way to my work, squealing like mad the entire way. The squealing stops when I stop, then starts when I start.

I've done a lot of DIY on this car, but not much on the drivetrain or suspension. Where do I even start looking? Any direction would be helpful. Thank you!
