Dr Slimer - Frozen Empire
Dr. Slimer here. Long time noise/experimental musician, though always deathly allergic to self promotion and almost all of my stuff is on CD-Rs that I don't even think I have copies of any more. Only claim to "fame" was being the guy making the weird synth noises on both Crazy Dreams Band records (Holy Mountain, rest in power John Whitsen fr fr) until I stopped going to practices and got booted out when the band started to become too straight forward rock band for my liking. Anyhow, just released my second album under this moniker and I'm pretty proud of it. All the tracks (with one notable and extremely goofy exception) are composed as chaotic free form noise jams incorporating a table of analog synths as well as midi drums and instruments (though some are completely analog) which are then widdled down and polished into extremely strange hip hop tracks. Standout track is probably No Joke which sounds so pro that I don't know how I did it, though still way too fucking weird for your average hip hop heads. If you're looking for the more sonically noisy and out there tracks then Look Who's Talking Now or Mormon Pinky Ring maybe more up your alley, or maybe the closer The Punchline which does incorporate midi drums and such but also degenerates into an almost harsh noise wall section before snapping back into rapping. Putting that out there knowing that the internet has destroyed all of our attention spans but would love if people actually gave it a full listen as it has a trajectory and an arc to it, often calling back and referencing previous songs. Anyway, i worked on this shit for like over a year and i dunno, i think it's pretty good, and while 20 years ago I wouldn't have expected anyone else to care about it, i feel like in a world where clipping., Death Grips, and JPEGMAFIA are extremely popular there have to be a few freaks out there that would dig it. Bandcamp link is below, but it's also on all your various evil streaming services as well. Hope you like it, and would love to hear feedback.
