Connecting to Apple Home?

I have a Nest thermostat that we installed years ago. I want to use it with Apple Home as I’m building out everything within it. Problem is I don’t have the box with the Home Kit QR code.

Is there a way to connect without the QR code? I tried holding my phone up to the thermostat to see if it would connect wirelessly but no luck. Unless I did something wrong.
