Daily cramps on continuous bc

I’m taking a combined pill (been on it for 2 yrs) and skip the placebo weeks but the past month I’ve had bad cramps for a few hours every day. When I messaged my dr the nurse answered and said to take a few days break from the pills and get a period. But I don’t understand because I thought I didn’t need to get a period while on continuous and I was put on this pill because of cysts so is it risky to stop the pill and then go back on? Also last time I had a period from stopping the pill, the period lasted 10 days really heavy and the idea of going through that again sounds so awful that I keep putting off taking my pill break. The biggest issue is that my gyno is on leave, the office doesn’t know when she’s coming back so I can’t go in to see her about this issue and in the mean time I have to wait.
