AIO for not wanting to bring my spouse to Mexico?
My parents invite my husband and me to Mexico every year for a few days. It’s kind of a tradition now—we even got married there—so it’s something we both look forward to, and my dad usually covers most of the trip.
My husband has a child from a previous marriage, and recently he took a weeklong trip to California with his son to visit his mom. I completely understand and am genuinely glad they were able to spend that time together, especially since they don’t get to see each other often. What caught me off guard, though, was that I only found out about the trip a few days before he left. I wasn’t given any flight or hotel info and didn’t even know his return time until his mom mentioned it. I would never want to stop him from taking that trip, but I was hurt by how little I was looped in.
We’ve been discussing our usual Mexico trip for months, and my dad’s ready to book it soon. Now my husband told me he doesn’t think he can get PTO, so he won’t be joining. I told my parents I’d just go alone this time and he can stay back with the cats. My dad is pushing me to ask him again to come, but I honestly don’t feel comfortable pushing it when I wasn’t even kept in the loop about his own recent travel plans.
It’s not that I’m trying to be petty—it just feels like a double standard. When I travel, even with friends, I always give him all the info because I think it’s just respectful. I’m trying to be understanding, but I also feel like my feelings are valid here. Am I overreacting?
