First time coming to New Orleans in October... what should we do?

Hello! I'll be traveling to New Orleans for the first time in late October/early November... right around the weekend of Halloween. I'd love some itinerary ideas for a small group of 20 somethings? We all like to drink and eat good food, go out, but also love being active and would like to do some hiking/outdoorsy sightseeing while we're there. Since it'll be Halloween time I'm sure something spooky should also be on the radar...

I also saw some people talking about a day trip to Ponchatoula? Do you think it'd be worth taking a day trip there if we'll only be there for a few days? We'll be there for about 3/4 days.

Any specific restaurants, museums, trails or tours would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
