name for fixing bottom of ceramics??

approx. four years ago i was taking my first ceramics class and i took out the bottom and my teacher taught me how to make a "lie" to fix it (just score + slip a slab onto the bottom). i looked it up to check the spelling of it and i literally cannot find it anywhere. is there a technical name for this? is it lie and just spelled differently??
