Craziest Copy-Pasta in Music I've Seen (pls skim first paragraph on stream at least. ill link this post when i donate the songs)

Discussion

Hi Liam, I just joined the subreddit :D Cool content! (I'm a stream viewer)

So there's this modern post-hardcore band called Catch Your Breath (2M monthly). I used to have a few of their songs on my playlist until I realized that one of them called Dying on the Inside was absolutely stolen from 1x1 (pronounced one by one) by Bring Me the Horizon. Same exact song duration, arrangement, prechorus melody, bridge… specifics on this later.

You’ve said before that u don't like to call music stolen - I don't either bc it’s a serious accusation. But this is so shamelessly copied, theres just no better word.

Ok, so ik u don't like what you've heard from Bring Me so far (altho they’ve done so many genres, you'd fs like something in their discography. I’ll bet you’d like their Sempiternal album) AND u likely haven't even heard of Catch Your Breath. So why does this matter?

1.) Legitimate music copying is the worst thing u can do as an artist. Somehow they're gotten away with it and that's worse.

2.) They have 2M monthly listeners. Learning that they copied music took away credibility from them for me, an ex-casual listener. But they have so many loyal fans whose support is being taken advantage of, and obviously wasn’t earned. A band that puts such little effort in their music, even aside from the literal plagarism, doesn't deserve a platform.

3.) It's not the only time they’ve done it, just the most glaring. I'll include the other one I know of at the bottom.

  1. Maybe most importantly- LITERALLY NO ONE has talked about it. Not one video, no articles, nothing. Just the whole comments section for the song on YT (which is still pretty telling, theres 77 comments and almost all of them say it sounds like 1x1, that its copied, that it must be a cover, etc) and like one comment on a reddit post. No idea how this has been kept under the rug for so long. Alright so-

SONG SIMILARITIES: Nearly every part. Most of u havent heard the songs, so heres mainly what to look for.

Specifically, the same exact prechorus melody (BMTH has a different second prechorus), same intro, same outro, chorus melody, bridge pacing (CYB just didn't write lyrics for it). All they really changed was the verse melody (ofc u already notice that stuff cos ur analytical of music but yea, thought specifics would help)

ANDDD the arrangement matches - if u play them at the same time they overlap perfectly, except for an extra part BMTH put after the second verse, but they line back up after that. (timestamps if curious: 1:38 CYB prechorus, BMTH extra part. 1:50 songs line back up til the end) The key and chords are different, same bpm tho.

**compare the timestamps 2:40 - 2:55 (same for both lol) which is the transition from bridge to the last chorus bc the drum beats are identical.

I almost think it takes even more effort to copy something to calculatedly, piece for piece. Also shows how stupid they think their listeners must be.

ok so im gonna donate both songs one of these days when u stream earlier (today maybe)

thank sm by the way. I'm not interested in ‘exposing’ bands but in this case it's a big deal and u bringing some attention to it, even just for the people on stream is more than helpful.

And if this interests u enough consider making a video on it. Since no one's talked about it AND they’re a big band, you'd be the first to publicly talk about it and I think the video would do well. Plus u did a video on TX2 ripping off Get Scared and theres even more examples + evidence with catch your breath.

You're our only hope 😭 but thx either way lol hope found this interesting at least.

The other song ik of, they copied the bridge, not the whole song. But its still more than inspiration - and its the same band!

21 Gun Salute by CYB- Hospital for Souls also by Bring me the horizon

SIMILARITIES: Same melody, rhyme, pacing, switch from cleans to louder/screaming, looping of lyrics (even similar lyrics).

**Timestamps if curious: part in hospital for souls 4:10 - 6:35 (its long so u can skip once u get it to 5:40 which is the screaming part. Thats important)

Part in 21 gun salute 2:19 - 3:12 ‘Screaming’ starts at 2:49**

If it was just this song, i wouldnt accuse them. In fact, i didnt. 21 gun salute used to be a favorite. But its exhibit B and obviously not a coincidence so yea, i can accuse them now.

It doesn't even sound good anymore, knowing where they got the melody and knowing the intention behind it, (which in any case of stealing can't be good). Crazy how that works.

*if he skips over this, can someone pls link it? thx
