My dryer lost power at this component ...

My dryer stopped heating. The heating element isn't getting power. It's a very old dryer, from 1997. When I turn it on, I measure the power reaching this component, but it doesn't pass through to the heating element. My question is: what's the risk if I bypass these components and try to run it?
