Diagnosed today

Newly Diagnosed

I was tested last week and officially diagnosed this morning at 36. I've suspected this was the case since I first learned if autism at 17. I've had several mental health professionals suggest that I may have ASD or should get tested. And now it's finally confirmed. I've also only had a couple friends in my life. Averaging over time, it's ~ 0.15 friends at any given moment. And I have a commonly described list of social issues and have never felt like I belonged angwhere. I started the process of diagnosis when I heard of theory of mind -- realizing I don't have it. I subsequently realized I have alexithymia. It takes ~ 1 hr of mediation while listening to binaural beats to feel emotions. People say that this is apparently something most people can do. And lights/noises I've always been sensitive to while insensitive to smells and touch. This feels like such a load off. I haven't been crazy this whole time. I'm happy to join you all.

Conveniently, I have a first appointment with an autism-centered therapist tomorrow. Do people here have suggestions on what to ask for?

First impressions: 1 -- my memory loss is more likely tied to shutdown/burnout than dementia (hurray!), 2 -- someone gets it, 3 -- rather than just anxiety this points to a host of problems pointing out what I'm feeling and filtering out lights and noises.
