4 months sober? Reset counter?
4 months sober today. I think. Ordinarily I’d be over the moon but had an accident this weekend and it has dampened my mood a little.
Was at an event (think outdoor food stalls) and a friend handed me a sample of what they said was a mocktail. I asked if they were sure it wasn’t alcoholic and they said yes, they checked, it’s just the base of the cocktail, confirmed by the person at the stall. They had already tried a sample of this, so I trusted their judgement. But they had a few drinks by this point so I should’ve verified by myself.
First sip, wasn’t too sure. It was surprisingly bitter. But I was assured it was just the juices. I took another sip, smaller. At that point I just wasn’t convinced anymore. It turns out it was alcoholic. I didn’t finish the sample, just those two sips.
Would you reset your counter for that? I didn’t want to drink and I didn’t feel any buzz. Just sadness at the fact I had alcohol honestly. And a bit of tingling in my throat…
I know counting can be detrimental if it becomes demotivating when you slip or if it encourages slips to lead to relapses, but I do enjoy counting, marking each day on the app I use. I’m feeling like a fraud at the moment and I’m wondering if I’m being too hard on myself.
Thanks all.
