Have one more day off while taste testing potential neighborhoods in LA - what neighborhood might be a good fit
I have been in LA for the last 4 weeks for a summer job at USC. My partner wants to move to LA next year. I live in Boston and have never been to LA before this trip, so I have been using my days off to see how I like it and what neighborhoods I enjoy. I have one final day off and would like to visit another neighborhood that could have what I am looking for! Any suggestions from you all?
What I am seeking:
- Rent budget - $2400 for a 1 bed with a large living room space or 2 bed apartment. Potentially a 3 bed or 4 bed for ~$1,200 a room in case we choose to live with his band-mates.
- Close to public transportation - I would like to take public transit to work so my partner and I can share a car. I do not have a job lined up yet but will be looking for mental health counseling jobs
- A walk-able neighborhood - this is something I adore about Boston. I would like to have access to a grocery store, post office, restaurants and stores in a reasonable distance from my home
- People in their mid to late 20s - I do not know anyone in LA and want to make friends
Neighborhoods I have visited and initial thoughts:
I walked through the residential areas, went into some stores, and walked on the main roads of each of these neighborhoods. If you feel like I got the wrong impression, I would like to hear why! Maybe I missed a street or something.
Echo Park: houses and residential areas were very cute, I appreciated that the stores I went in were more within my budget, I was able to take the bus back to USC, so it seems like public transit would be an option, park was super nice, one of my favorite places so far
Silver Lake: I found the residential areas cute but it was disappointing to go into the stores and everything being incredibly expensive. I got the vibe that its a neighborhood for rich people and there would not be many places there for me to enjoy without driving/using transit to another neighborhood. If it seemed like things were affordable, I think this would be my favorite neighborhood
Santa Monica: I enjoyed the beach and the cleanliness of the neighborhood, I liked that it was easy to get there by train, it felt like a place with a little less personality compared to the other neighborhoods I visited, a bit sterile I guess?
West Hollywood: I enjoyed the residential area, the main street had a lot of gay bars and shops, so I felt a little like I might be intruding in a space for a community that I am not a part of (maybe this is not actually the case). Seemed walk-able and close to other nice neighborhoods though!
Hollywood: Not great, quite dirty and lots of tourists and weird shops around here, wasn't a huge fan
Surrounding USC area: I was getting unsafe vibes as soon as I stepped off campus and not sure I wanna be in an area around a buncha college students
Thank you in advance for your help!
