Should I switch my hoop back to a bar?

Question about piercing in general

I’ve had my helix piercing for four years now and just recently gotten the bar switched to a surgical steel hinged hoop that I bought from my piercer.

I understand that a hoop can cause irritation because of it’s shape, but just for how long? It’s been a month and the pain won’t go away.

My ear isn’t red, swollen, or hot— there’s only pain whenever I touch the piercing/hoop. There’s a small irritation bump behind my ear where the hoop sits, but other than that it’s fine. I was worried that the jewelry might of been too big for my helix hole so I went to get it checked out, but the piercer said it was just irritation.

I want to know if anyone else had to deal with this for long, and if it ever truly went away? Should I go back to my piercer and just switch it back to a bar? 😭
