Playing SH3 for the first time and it makes me realize we need more independence in modern games
I just reached the underground passage at the part where you have to fill a bottle with kerosene to power the pump. And god I spent about 40 minutes looking for some kind of bucket or bottle. Cleared all the enemies in rooms I didn’t even need to go in, backtracked about 20 times, all to realize I didn’t click on the wine rack at the end of some random hall full of trash cause there was a health drink in front of it and I didn’t think to keep looking there. While it sounds tedious, I LOVE how older games (survival horror in particular) don’t hold your hand, it basically just throws you to the wolves and says F you figure it out yourself. Games now are so tutorialized and hand-holdy that you almost never feel that same sense of reward when you backtrack and find something obscure you’ve been missing the whole time. I literally felt like Sherlock Holmes finding that empty wine bottle with no hints😂. Also side note, the maul sucks. Is there a particular enemy that it’s good for? (the wind up is way too long and I just get attacked mid swing)
