AITAH for not telling family that my throat cancer may have come back.

Advice Needed

Ok so here it is and this is not a bot post nor is it fake. Back in 2022 I was diagnosed with Barretts esophagus and when my dr sent me to Stanford hospital up in San Francisco for an endoscopy they removed some cancerous polyps and repaired a shit ton of lesions. They said they had got all they could find but it could come back. Well I live in KY now and the other day had an appointment with my primary care Dr. Who said it has been way too long since my last endo and he's afraid the cancer may have come back so he set me up with a gastrointestinal dr.

Here's where I may be the ah. My family has a habit of everything I tell them something they try to one up me. If I tell them something good all I hear is how my sister is doing this or got promoted or so.ethibg else better than me, but if I tell them something bad my mother comes out and talks about how bad her medical issues are. No sympathy whatsoever not even a "damn that sucks" before she goes into her rant. My 3 adult children act the same way. So I decided if it did come back I was only going to tell my wife, my two teenagers who live with me, my bro in law and a close friend that I worked with who is kind of like a sister to me.

So AITAH for not telling the rest of my family if it has come back?
