Are there "support groups" that protect the legal rights of international students/(temporary?) immigrants/foreigners in Chicago?

Please excuse the unintended silliness of my wording -- I am almost certain the term "support group" is unsuitably lighthearted for what I am trying to ask about. By "temporary" I mean "nonresident alien" -- as the government puts it anyway.

If you look at my post history you'll see I am an international student at a college near the city caught in a bit of a dilemma. Currently, I am home for the summer, and I am really worried about coming back. A few people suggested I try to see who I may reach out to in Chicago if I get in a legally messy situation -- i.e. get detained for whatever reason.

I am only midway through school. Got about 2 years and a half left which puts me in a pretty unfortunate position. The only way I can realistically come back is if I can at least make sure I won't be completely on my own in case that happens. I have no family nearby and my passport is lamentable -- so I can't rely on either one of those avenues.

I would appreciate any pointers to people or organisations I could possibly follow/get in touch with beyond my college, whose reassurance is...quite lacking. Reasonably so, maybe. Times are tough. Thanks!
