Looking for seating ideas for classroom reading space - fabric furniture is no longer allowed
New fire marshal rules means we are no longer allowed any fabric furniture in our classrooms. No teacher chairs, no couches, nothing with fabric. Everything else like shelving, rugs (which are very discouraged) all require prior approval. Any cushions, pillows or blankets must be stored in plastic totes when not in use.
We are no longer allowed curtains, things hanging from the ceiling, doubling up on walls, or covering more than 25% of the walls.
I’m trying to come up with an idea for how to make my classroom reading nook cozy. I could put in a rug, but I am told the janitor does not like rugs, and from what I’ve seen he doesn’t really care to keep things properly clean.
Anyone have alternative ideas?? I’ll be teaching grade 1/2 for context.
