NYSE brazil exposure in the light of future 50% tariff rate

Broad market news

If the US were to slap a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, these American-headquartered companies could feel the hit in several ways:

Coca-Cola (KO): Coke relies heavily on Brazil for sales volume and raw material supply chains like sugar. Brazil is one of Coke’s largest markets outside the US a major contributor to Latin American sales volume.Significant share of Latin America revenue (~20% of total revenue comes from Latin America, with Brazil the biggest single market).

General Motors (GM): GM builds cars in Brazil for local and regional markets. GM has operated in Brazil for decades; it’s a top car seller there under the Chevrolet brand. GM’s South American unit is heavily dependent on Brazilian auto production and sales.

Ford (F): although Ford closed most of its factories in Brazil, it still sells cars and imports some models. New tariffs could make sourcing parts or cars pricier and invite retaliatory trade barriers.

McDonald’s (MCD): through its franchise partner Arcos Dorados, McDonald’s has Brazil as its biggest Latin American market.

Chevron (CVX): Chevron’s Brazilian oil production could face new export hurdles if tariffs prompt Brazil to retaliate with energy restrictions or new taxes on foreign operators, cutting into profits and planned expansions.

Caterpillar (CAT): big seller of construction/mining equipment. Brazil is a major source of demand for mining/agriculture.

Mondelez (MDLZ): large snack food market in Brazil brands like Oreo and Lacta are household names there.
