Hysterectomy next week
Just had my consent appointment a couple of days ago. My doctor went over the normal risks and recovery talk. I have a few questions for those who have actually had personal experience with the process. Just for some background, i’m 22 and i’ve had two rotator cuff repairs and a lap for endometriosis diagnosis. I have a pretty good grasp of how painful recovery could be and how you don’t realize how many muscles go into moving just one part of your body (shoulder surgery is a 0/10 experience lol).
Hysterectomy will consist of robotic assisted with 4 incision just above the belly button with uterus, cervix, and tubes being removed. Ovaries are being kept and endo is also being removed (again). I know it doesn’t cure endometriosis and it will still persist so those comments aren’t needed.
1.) How much bleeding is normal? Should i expect light spotting or more? Should i wear normal pads or just buy some diapers? I do know if it’s anything crazy i need to go to the ER.
2.) what helps with the pain besides narcotics? I tried oxycodone for my rotator cuff repairs and it made me insanely nauseous even when taking half of a 5mg.
3.) Typically 8 weeks is the minimum for recovery before doing anything that involves inserting anything into the vagina. I plan on waiting 12 just for a peace of mind. Is that an appropriate amount of time or should i wait a few more?
4.) what should i expect for the first few days of recovery? Is it debilitating or will i be able to sit up and walk by myself? I’m worried about making my way to the bathroom.
5.) this is just for anything you guys recommend and think should be mentioned! Personal experience is welcomed so share your stories!
Thank you all in advance!
