aio for not driving ten minutes back ?

👥 friendship

this happened a couple of months ago now but i was just recently thinking about this again and just how funny it all it and just wanted an unbiased opinion:)

so me (22f) and my twin sister (22f) victoria moved with my family to the current city we live in ab ten years ago. when we first got here, victoria and i were still in high school and we met this girl Mariana (22f fake name). all three of us had a lot in common so we formed a friendship pretty quickly; would’ve been ten years this year.

some side details that are kind of important: Mariana is the kind of person that gets upset when she doesn’t get the things she wants. she almost even throws a tantrum until me and my sister give in. it’s been like that most of our friendship. i can’t say we didnt want to go ALL the time but there were a lot of time were we would say yes just for her to stop nagging. she’s also the type to be late for EVERY SINGLE THING EVER. pretty unhealthy dynamic that we didn’t know we had.

here’s what actually happened.

so, random thursday, i’m at work and i get a text from the gc and they’re asking me if i was off that sunday so we could go to the beach, i was so i said yes. mind you, my sister and her were on the phone planning this but texted me bc i was at work, but that’s all they told ME. i figured they would make the plans by themselves.

we never mentioned the topic of the beach neither on the gc nor privately, until saturday night when just texted us to get her a beach towel (she had recently moved out for the first time) so we’re like cool. plan was to wake up at 7am so we could be in the road by 8 because the because we wanted to go to was an 1.5 away and we wanted to get a good spot, be at the beach for a little bit, walk around the town near the beach, have dinner, and still come back early because they have 9-5’s so they had to be up early the next morning. have a girls day like we do every summer.

the next morning me and my sister wake up, we get ready, she’s driving so we pack up her car and we ended up leaving the house at 8:15am. we still had to stop for gas and ice, so i texted the group chat and let her know. a couple of minutes later she’s calling my sister asking her if she can drive back out house so she can leave her car at our house and she could carpool with us. my sister gave me this “are you fucking serious?” kind of look. she waited until we were already out of the house ready to go to tell us to turn around? my sister still gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked her where she was and she said she was on her way and was about ten minutes away. when we checked her location, she was leaving her house. she was 45 minutes away from where we were. so my sister immediately said no, she explained that she was so far away still and that if that’s what she wanted to do in the first place, we should’ve planned ahead of time snd she definitely had to get up earlier.

to ME this was a surprise because we’ve been to the beach countless time and never has she wanted to carpool with us. not once. and her excuse ? she didn’t feel confortable driving all the way over there. that created even more disaster because that’s never been the case for anything. she’s always wanted to drive her car to places bc she loves to speed and cut thru people and do her shit and me and sister and just trynna get there.. it’s usually us that carpool with her.

so she ends up getting really upset with us because we didn’t go back for her and just said “fine whatever i’ll see you guys there” and we thought that was the end of it but no. we’re in the highway driving over to the beach and she calls back and says “i think i’m just gonna go back home” and i was flabbergasted because i could believe it tbh.. i felt like it was such a silly little thing that turned into such a big deal.

we were already on the way so we decided to still go to the beach and just be me and my sister, and on the way there i kinda felt bad because in the end..we technically could’ve gone back to her it’s just not convenient i guess but at the same time this was probably if not the only, one of the only times we’ve said no to something to her so it kinda sucks that she’s getting all worked up.

plot twist tho lol, she ended up coming to a beach five miles down from where my sister and i were. yep. about an hour after me and my sister got to the beach she posted a story and tagged a beach and the beach was five miles down from the beach me and sister were at. oh yeah and on top of that she took it to social media to share a post that said “one misunderstanding and you’ll realize if she was really your friend or secretly your hater” THE SAME DAY all of this happened. mind you, before i saw all of this i did try to text her and try to talk to her ab what happened and she never opened my message until like three weeks later and still left me on read.

this is were me and my sister might me the bad guys. from me and my sisters perspective, it’s not about driving the 10 minutes. i feel like at that point we both were mutually done accommodating shit for her all the time. that’s were i think we were wrong. we didn’t put the boundary on her or communicate how we were feeling ab all of that, hence why she felt so confident doing all of that. however, that doesn’t explain how she gets told no ONCE and re drops a 10y friendship? that still doesn’t sit right with me.

so am i overreacting by not wanting to fix the friendship? bc knowing her, she’ll come back around.
