[16M] Really bad headaches since I was 6 - Do I need to book an appointment?

Physician Responded

Hey everyone. I’m posting here because I’ve been experiencing the same type of headache since I was a kid, and I’m trying to figure out what it might be.

Symptoms: • I get a severe headache every couple of months (1-3). • The headache usually starts off mild and builds slowly over the course of a few hours. • The pain becomes intense enough that I usually have to either sleep it off or vomit — throwing up often gives instant relief. (the kinda pain that makes me want to bang my head against a wall) • Movement (walking, turning my head, etc.) makes the nausea dramatically worse — it can push me to the point of vomiting. • The episodes can last from a few hours up to a full day. • These have been happening consistently since early childhood(earliest memory being 6yr old.

What I don’t experience: • No light sensitivity — light doesn’t seem to affect me during these episodes. • No known triggers yet (though I haven’t tracked them in detail).

I’ve never gotten a formal diagnosis, but I’m wondering if this could be migraine or something like that.

Sorry if this is a stupid worry, it's just that these headaches feel different then the regular fever headaches do.

Would really appreciate if someone could let me know that it is not a big problem/I need to book an appointment. Thanks in advance!
