So I really enjoyed about 75% of Rebirth
There is a lot in this movie that is really enjoyable, and I believe there is a great movie in there with some minor changes.
First of all every scene with an actual dinosaur was incredible. The Mosasaur chase, just gave me massive Jaws vibes and it was perfect. The Spinos were scene stealers and I loved them.
The Quetz was awesome and creepy and getting eaten by a giant bird is just nightmares. The Titanasaur scene was good, obviously it was meant to be reminiscent of the original Brachy.
T-rex - no notes... perfection.
I need more herbivores in these films, give me a herd of Trikes with a pissed off bull that scares off the D-Rex in the final or something.
The story was good enough for me. The logic behind these animals having the massive heart and lifespans is enough for me to believe in the plot.
The only character that bugged me was the father. Idk if it's because I'm a father as well and it's just his reactions to his kids in peril wasn't good enough for me. The boyfriend was a fun character but if they remove him and used his brave moments for the father instead, it would have opened up the story for me.
Ie: when the older daughter goes over board, the father could have entrusted Duncan to look after the girl, and he immediately jumps in to save his oldest.
Then they are split from the main group and the arc could be completed between father and growing daughter. Now Duncan... spend the film devoted to keeping the youngest girl safe, it gives an emotion touch to him losing his son and creates closure for his character.
Scarlett's character... just pick one backstory, dead friend or dead mom. You can't have both
Mutadons... get rid of them. Replace them with a couple of the camouflaging carnotaurs and people are happy. Make them scary and grotesqued looking.
The D-rex I just have no opinion on it. Looks cool, cool scenes, but it doesn't compel me to feel sorry for it like it was led to believe.
So all in all I enjoyed the movie but could have been better. Basically once the actual dinosaur scenes are done, why was losing interest.
