derealization disorder

Need Support

I remember getting my first episode of derealization when I was 6 years old at Six Flags. I remember telling my family I didn’t feel real. Of course as a 6 year old saying that, it was brushed off. I never knew how to describe how I felt. I don’t remember a lot of my childhood from before 6.

As the years have gone by, I feel like it’s been more prominent in my life. In high school, it happened a lot more often.

Now, I’m 24 and I feel like I’m constantly in a state of derealization. I don’t feel as outgoing as before because I’m constantly triggered by the fact that my surrounding don’t feel real. I’ll randomly doze off when people speak to me. It used to only get triggered when I was in new public spaces I have never been to. Now, it even happens in my room. I’ll find myself staring at the wall because out of nowhere I feel like nothing is real. It’s affecting my daily life. I feel like life has no purpose at times and I’m just simply living in a dream. It’s been hard doing any of my responsibilities because nothing feels real anyway. I have little to no motivation at that. I’ve never been to a psychiatrist for this but I just don’t know what to do anymore.
