Whole string Cheese Is a choking hazard for a 2 year old

I'll preface this by saying my husband and I have fought three times over this already and frankly I'm writing this out more as a very long vent than a question. I can't even vent to anyone about this because my friends and family straight up would think this is just incredibly dumb.

We had been giving string cheese whole to our toddler (a little under 2.5 y/o) without issue almost daily since she turned 2. I always supervise her with it but my husband doesn't - it's a pattern with him where he just leaves her to do whatever while he goes upstairs to get ready and shower. In the past, when she was only a year old, he would also leave her downstairs while he went upstairs to shower despite me telling him to at least bring her into the bathroom with him (with some toys) so he can see her.

A couple weeks ago, I came downstairs to find my daughter crying and then she stopped making crying sounds but was still really upset - I look over and it's clear something isn't right, at which point I realize that she has a whole lot of something in her mouth and I tell her to spit it out, except she can't. So I reach in and scoop it out and it's a big wad of melted string cheese, some of which I fished back out of her throat. I don't know if it was already melted/softened by the time she tried to eat it, or if the heat of her keeping it in her mouth for a long time melted it, but it was melty enough to pull/stretch.

I tell my husband who's upstairs what happened and he starts yelling at me that it wasn't string cheese, it was a whole Babybel cheese (which we've also given to her whole, she likes to peel it) and getting angry at me for telling him she was choking on string cheese. He's adamant it wasn't string cheese (and denied giving it to her) even though I told him I literally took it out of her mouth and it got to the point that I told him to look in the trash can to see for himself that it was string cheese. I'm angry at this point because she just choked and his concern is over whether it was cheese he gave her or "something she picked up around the house." A couple minutes later he's still upstairs and I found the actual string cheese plastic wrap on the sofa, which I brought upstairs to show him. The end result (I'm skip the rest of the arguing back and forth) was that I told him to always supervise her when she's eating string cheese because she can choke on it and he agreed.

Then this morning my daughter comes upstairs to tell me that she phuw-ed (we taught her to spit it out if she puts too much food in her mouth to swallow, or like with toothpaste). I asked her what it was and she said it was cheese. Now I'm alarmed because she loves cheese and she never spits it out like other food that she chews for a long time but ends up not wanting to swallow (usually meat or fibrous vegetables) and she obviously was not being supervised when all this went down.

I bring it up with my husband and cue another argument, he goes on and on about how he's given string cheese to her so many times and she doesn't choke on it, she only choked on it last time because she was crying, etc. I point out that a kid can eat grapes 1000 times and still choke on the 1001th time, that's why it's a choking hazard. I told him to look it up himself. He argues back and forth, says "but she was fine" because I was there (and my point is that he wasn't...the first time or this second time) and we get to the point where he says ok, he'll cut it up. I only told him to supervise whenever she eats it and I reiterated my point, but that's what he goes to. He also aggressively questions at what age it stops being a hazard. I told him I don't know but I can look it up and that he needs to look it up himself to see that it is actually a choking hazard. I even pointed out that adults have died from choking on melted mozzarella sticks, it's a known thing. The argument got to the point where I told him that even if 99% of kids who eat something don't choke, that doesn't mean that thing is not a choking hazard.

He STILL blows up again and tells me he just doesn't think it's a choking hazard and maybe I think it is but it's not.

I mean, I was a firsthand witness to my choking daughter and not only did he start out by not believing it was string cheese - which I pointed out makes it seem like he thinks I was lying to him or something, whereas he just keeps saying it was reasonable for him to not believe it because she's eaten it at least 50x before - his attitude about it even now is still that he'll do it to appease me but he's made it clear he thinks I'm an idiot about this. He even went as far as to ask me what do I mean by "supervise" her and I told him - supervise her so if she chokes on it he'll see it and actually know it's happening. Seriously.

In general he's very lax on safety and I would say I already am pretty relaxed myself about things, but the difference is that after all this happened, I specifically told him to watch her when he gives it to her and he straight up chose not to. Then when I brought it up to him he's still arguing and keeps questioning what's the point of the conversation (for him to supervise her when she's eating string cheese, which I've told him 10x) and has decided it's really about my "hurt feelings." I can't even at this point.

Obviously this is really also about our communication, relationship with each other, and so on, but I'm just so incredibly frustrated over what I consider to be possibly the dumbest thing to even be arguing about. If you've reached the end of my Ted talk about @#$%^ string cheese, please thank your spouse for being at least better than mine about this single issue.

Also, if your spouse is somehow worse than mine about this single issue, this isn't "proof" as it's just some online forum post, but here's someone who lost their 2 1/2 year old choking to death on a cheese stick
