Tell me about your experiences with gay bars
I just went to a gay bar as an aroace girl for the first time because I thought I could make friends, and it was kind of awful (to be fair, I went alone). The bartender kind of ignored me for a minute, side-eyed me pretty heavily, and made my drink super weak. I still tipped him though because I'm pretty sure the dude was over straight girls co-opting the space and thought I was one of them. Then again, I also feel like I was wearing an outfit no straight girl would wear. Like, what kind of straight girl is wearing a puff sleeve mini romper, bust of Artemis earrings, and braided pigtails with ace colored ribbons?
Anyway, I literally had to order two drinks to get the confidence to go dancing, which is kind of wild because I usually only need one. Then, I got hit on by a straight guy like fifteen minutes in. It was the queer equivalent of finding a lizard in your cooler because how did it even get there? I did have a nice chat with another girl where we complimented each other's outfits, but I very much felt out of place the entire time. At some point, I started talking to another girl who seemed very sapphic, and she pulled out, >!"I don't understand how not wanting to have sex makes you queer?"!< and I just died internally and left. All of this happened over maybe an hour and a half.
So yeah, I was hoping y'all could share some more positive/neutral gay bar experiences. I want to believe that night was just cursed because I'd like to go back on a quieter night.
*Note: added spoiler because she said something mildly aphobic, so I figured I'd make reading that optional.
