Song of the Day Redux, Day 42: Prize Fighter Inferno: The Margretville Dance
The Prize Fighter Inferno: The Margretville Dance
The fifth track of Claudio's 2006 PFI album My Brother's Blood Machine.
The Content: First of all, I'm pretty sure that "rock your body" is not literal, but a dark metaphor. "Here we come to rock your body" almost certainly refers to the Bleam brothers (one of whom likes to dance, and probably uses it as a distorted metaphor for what the Blood Machine they have constructed will do to the body of the victims.)
Part of it is probably also at a dance, but I don't know what's going on. Cecillia and Johnny may actually be at a dance, discussing what they're going to do, but I don't really know. Someone on songmeanings.com suggests that "I might purely suggest we tell the truth, from here on out we walk the straight…" is Johnny recommending to Cecillia that she fess up for killing Arthur (something which may or may not have actually happened, we don't know this) and just do the right thing. Cecillia isn't willing to do that, and she wants to run away.
Other parts are clearer: "Is this the way you watch the body die" is almost certainly an early experiment of the Bleam brothers with the Blood Machine, possibly running their mother through it to release her soul, or killing their father for killing their mother. (I don't like that latter interpretation because Run Gunner Recall Run is about the Bleam father, still alive. It could be nonlinear, but I sort of doubt it.)
The Music: All electronic. And I hate to say this, but, I don't care for this song very much. The "here we come to rock your body" is kind of annoying in a repetitive way. At any rate, there are some cool harmonies in there, and the song is more intricate than it initially sounds, but I can't really get into it.
The Part: The harmonies in "I don't want you to come around here!" Reminds me of Ten Speed's "I don't wanna ride tonight, no I don't wanna go"
Between you & me,
And how cautious we have become
Leaving you hooked & off the floor,
To think the better you might have known... with age,
With every breath you wake a picture instilled the way,
I wish you had lived with cause through pain,
No, no matter, you died the same... Machine,
So tell me like you want to,
(Here we come to rock your body all...)
If you want me too,
(Here we come to rock your body all night).
When who's to blame,
In a matter of fact I might,
Purely suggest we tell the truth,
From here on out we walk the straight... afraid,
What will they do should we weather this new reply?
Patiently wait your proper end,
From shameless motive to hollow sin,
You're waste.
So tell me like you want to,
(Here we come to rock your body all...)
If you want me too,
(Here we come to rock your body all night)
'Cause I don't want you to come around here,
I just want you to go.
I don't want you to come around here,
I just want you to know:
Is this the way you
Is this the way you
Is this the way you watch the body die?
'Cause I don't want your
(I said) "love" before you rot.
