Performance Improvement Plan

I’ve been put on a PIP and I want to understand the implications and what to expect in BCPS. In the private sector it usually means you’ll be let go soon. But I’m not sure how it works here and what to expect as steps before you're fired.

I’d like to stick around, but I’m worried this could be permanent on my record and that my chances for growth or mobility are gone. I’ve already seen some of my responsibilities reassigned, and when I ask what I should be working on, I get vague direction. It’s hard to “improve” when there’s not enough meaningful work to show anything.

The uncertainty is taking a toll on my mental health. With the hiring freeze, moving internally isn't an option, and the external job market isnt great either.

I’m not in a position to leave a stable job in this economy, but at the same time, I’m not sure if sticking it out will lead anywhere.

Is there any realistic path to turning things around in BCPS, or is this as sign to start looking for a new job?
