If You Were Going To Tip on an Online Flower Order… Who Do You Think You’re Tipping?

Serious question: If you were to place an online flower order on a local Flower shops website, expecting that your order is going to get made and going to be delivered regardless, if you were to leave a tip, who do you want your tip to go to?

So what do you think? • Are you tipping for the florist to make the arrangement extra nice? • Are you tipping the driver for the soonest delivery? (Most deliveries are completed by 3pm at the latest) Or tipping them b/c usually delivery drivers are tipped? • Just tossing the shop some goodwill? • Would you expect the office admin (who you didn’t speak to) to get some of that?

Here’s why I ask: In our small local flower shop, customers can tip through the website at checkout. The admin sees the order, prints it, and hands it to the florist, who makes the arrangement. The delivery driver drops it off. The customer doesn’t interact with anyone — it’s all done online.

Now there’s a disagreement. The Admin thinks they should get a cut of the tip pool, even though they had no contact with the customer. There was an agreement that tips go 60% to the florist, 40% to the driver. Admin wasn’t included since they’re not involved in the actual product or service. But now the owner has “just decided” to include them and to split tips 3 ways,

Not trying to be dramatic, just curious who the average person would want their tip is going to in this kind of situation if they had the option to choose (which, unfortunately we looked into seeing if it would be poss to give them that choice when placing their order, but it’s not)…
