Grandmother is horrible, and my mum feels guilty and is struggling a lot lately.
My grandmother has been like this forever according to my mum, with an escalation over the past few years.
For example, when my mum, aunt (mum's younger sister) and dad went to clean her house last week, she flew into a rage. Screaming at my mother and hitting, kicking and clawing at her face until my aunt jumped between them, and got kicked instead.
Grandmother apologised a few minutes later, and when my mum said she didn't believe it was sincere given what just happened, grandmother flew into another rage and screamed "you're dead to me" etc etc.
My mum had been going to help with my grandfather who had been on palliative care for the past two years, but passed away recently. We had the funeral on Monday. So I am hoping that we can cut off my grandmother now, even though my mum feels a LOT of guilt for not being attentive.
We've set in motion a lot of assessments for grandmother since she seems to be unable to look after the house herself and struggles with memory, sight and hearing, but refuses to even wear her glasses or get a hearing test. She has also been threatening to end her life every day (on calls to my mum), so one of those assessments is a mental health one.
She has called so incessantly for the past few years, and that's escalated too, to the point where she has been blocked, and I've disabled voicemail on my mum's phone. She can still contact my aunt, dad and me if she wanted to, but doesnt. Just my mother.
My mum STILL gets called everyday (they come up as blocked calls), eg 38 calls yesterday, and this used to be 20+ voicemails a day too saying "can you call me" every time. Was it ever anything important (EVER?)? No.
It makes my mum feel guilty, but mum still calls grandmother daily. And i feel terrible for my mum. She feels such a sense of duty to grandmother, despite the verbal attacks and manipulation since childhood, and now physical attacks too. It's impacting her health. She's been having heart palpitations and has needed antidepressants too since all these calls kicked off.. It's not good and I don't know how to help.
That's all. I don't expect anyone to read all this, but I'm hoping it'll help to get it all out.
