[M4F] The Summer Rental
You surprised me.
I'd settled in this sleepy shore town several years ago. Back in my post-college youth I had envisioned a career as a professor, chasing a tenure position. I figured this job would be the stepping stone to greater things. The job was teaching at the local two year college and despite my grand plans, the allure of the easy life was too much to pass up. A short stint turned into a long one which turned this from a stepping stone into a plateau.
Not that I minded. Sure, early on I had dalliances with some of the students who were starting their college career after a few years in the workforce, but after a while I yearned for other things. That's when I started dating some of the tourists who would stop in for the summer, but that too was fleeting. Recently I've kept to myself and frankly, things seemed fine.
The academic year held its own rhythm, a cadence of a well known song. Every summer, though, brought its own unique bridge. The warmer were busier as the houses filled up with guests and people flocked to the beaches. I didn't mind as it helped to keep things fresh.
Or at least I thought I didn't mind until two years ago. The couple across the way up and moved and the folks who bought the place decided to rent it out. Where summer was once a time to recharge my batteries, when the first share group moved in I decided to spend way more time at a favorite coffee shop.
That July saw way too many sleepless nights as the parties raged. It wasn't that they were loud - just louder than I was used to in the quiet corner where I made my home. I kept my mouth shut, the fear of being that boring old guy across the street threatening the image of youth I kept in my mind. And once summer ended the people who came through were, for the most part, quiet.
But then June hit again and I was waiting to see what the warmer months would have in store. When I saw you, young and cute, moving in a week ago, I was fearing the worst. But it seemed that you were content to just pass the days relaxing in the sun, reading books, and generally enjoying the beach not one hundred steps from your front door.
Like I said, you surprised me.
I kept waiting for something to change - something to disturb the peace and nothing ever did. Until this morning when for some reason you decided to knock on my door.
A lovely summer fling, as chaste or smutty as you desire. If another prompt catches your eyes let me know.
