AITAH for telling a friend that 2001: a space odyssey is a shit movie?

I have this friend who is a huge movie nerd and a card game nerd, this guy told me that 2001:a space odyssey was the best sci-fi movie he had ever seen. I don’t watch old movies because most of them feel outdated to me and to be honest most of them are ,yet people keep praising them. So due to his recommendation i watched this movie and wasted don’t know how many hours of my life. Absolute horseshit movie with the blank screen for a few minutes when it starts. I have seen mediocre movies getting praised many times before but this was pure garbage. I knew kubrick was celebrated as one of the greatest filmmakers but i had never checked out his filmography, But after this i checked out one of his other movies A clockwork orange. I mean why the hell do people glaze them? These two are two of the worst movies i have ever watched . And kubrick to me seems like a hack who scammed the film snobs with his absurd ,unreasonably drawn out non sense that people seem to jerk off to. So i told my friend how i felt and i would never understand how someone can be so passionate about something so shit. The guy educated me about “cinema” I didn’t argue with him cause he tends to get heated about these topics. AITAH?
