About picking up a pencil...
Neutral leaning pro here. For reasons that should be obvious, I am not asking you to upload your art.
What I am interested in is how long you've been doing the kind of art you're doing (whether traditional drawing, digital art, music, writing, everything related to art really) and what you consider your favorite medium, as well as your favorite "style".
Feel free to elaborate on potential backgrounds or jobs, your most favorite and your least favorite creation and why they resonate that way with you (again: putting it in writing suffices. No need to expose yourself).
Have you always enjoyed artistic creation, or did you unexpectadly stumble upon it? Did you have longer breaks and have a "moment of return to passion"?
I genuinely want to know about your journey, not to point fingers at others, but maybe to give a little insight. Maybe even defenders will join, who knows. As long as y'all are behaving, I see us actually sharing some insights that do not include tribalism. Also, in case you have questions about myself, feel free to AMA.
To give some fodder:
How long have you been doing art? On and off since childhood. Went to a vocational high school ("Fachhochschule," not sure if that's the correct term though) in Germany that had a focus on art and design. Recently picked up doodling again.
Favorite utilized medium? Traditional drawing.
Favorite style? Caricaturist cartooning. They let me claim that the messed-up proportions are intentional.
Background or job related to art? Patent paralegal by trade. We do not only meddle with patents, but trademarks, designs, and in some cases like mine, copyright law.
Favorite creation? A cartoon about a guy who accidentally ate a donor liver that was meant for his girlfriend. Drew it for my girlfriend of 12 years when we had our first anniversary. Yes, it is an insider.
Least favorite creation? Anything I tried to take too seriously. Failure loops long and constant in my mind. But there is an attempt at drawing a realistic human which looked like a mockery of everything that is holy. I have actually burned it and deleted all evidence, but it still haunts my mind.
Why do they resonate? Because one made my most loved person laugh and the other is living as a malevolent tulpa in my head.
Have you always drawn? Pretty much. Took a sabbatical once and called it “becoming an adult.”
Did you have a moment of return to passion? Yes. Recently said "eh, why not," after my girlfriend’s nephew (very young) found some old cartoons and could not stop laughing at the "funny faces." Realized while I myself cannot enjoy the fruits of my labor (chronic dopamine insufficiency since birth, let's gooo babyyy), at least those around me can.
