Why am I still in love?
My husband 21M and I 22F have been together and married for 3 years now. My husband is active duty in the army. He’s been in since 2022 but moved to his first duty station in 2023. When we were dating, he was so kind. He was very gentle with me. I lived in NY but his family and I would visit him at Massachusetts once every 2 weeks. He would always be so happy to see me when we met every 2 weeks. He was on his phone playing games from time to time but paid more attention to me than anything. We always had a great time and we were so happy like it was the time of our lives. When it was time to go and be separated and just do long distance for another 2 weeks until I got to see him again, he would constantly message me and call me. Back then, I used to work at a hair salon and I would be busy most of the day. It would make me so happy to see a text message from him every time I got a chance to look at my phone. It would bring a smile to my face. Whenever I got finished with work and got home, we called for hours on end and did a lot of fun things like sharing our screens and watching a movie together, playing games together, just listening to him play his guitar and talk about our days. I wouldn’t call this a red flag but as time went on, I noticed that he was a gamer. He lovesssss playing games whenever he gets the chance. A couple months later, he proposes and we get married fast since he had to move to his first duty station which was even further away. My husband moves all the way to Colorado in June and I move over in August. When we finally meet again, we’re the happiest. We stay at a hotel for 3 months until they gave us a house on base. We settled in and that’s where things start kicking in. The first year of our marriage was wonderful- it was like a dream but after that one year, he started with his gaming addiction. He wouldn’t keep track of his time and game nonstop. He would be playing games for 8-10 hours a day and leave minimal time for us to spend time together. That became a problem but I started to understand him because it came to my senses that soldiers need a stress reliever and that gaming was better than going out and getting drunk. By year 2 and 3 of our marriage, things started falling apart. My husband would come home from work stressed out and I would try to be there for him. My husband would just throw his things on the floor and hop right onto his games after greeting me after work. He would play nonstop for 8-10 hours unless he was eating, napping, or using the bathroom. Yeah he would give us time as well and we would have our moments together but still his game time would overrule our time together. Now the worst part- his anger issues. If I got him mad or annoyed, he would put all his anger out on me and rant everything out on me and blame me for everything. Sometimes, he would take his ring off and tell me to start packing and that he gives up on this marriage and that he’s had enough. That hurts my feelings but at the same time I understand his anger issues since he’s a soldier and he probably has built up stress. Another thing is that when it’s around 12:30, 1, 2AM and it’s time to sleep, he does but when he can’t go to sleep, he sometimes goes back to the living room to play games again. It pisses me off because I believe a married couple should sleep together and sleep is very important. So when I wake up and I don’t see my husband next to my side sleeping, I get really anxious, worried and annoyed. His gaming addiction is becoming a problem and it almost feels as if that he cares more about his games than his wife, me. He rather lose a wife than his games…. Other than him gaming and his anger issues. He also doesn’t text and call me as much to check up on me. But when we do spend time together, it’s the best because he does treat me like a princess. I just don’t get it and I’m very confused. What can I do??? Tips? Advice????
