Injury help!
Hi. Hoping for advice. Have been running again since early April, at first on the treadmill and then in late May actually went outside. Really happy with progress, got my 5k down from 33 mins to 27 mins, mix of 5k and 10k runs approx 4/5 times a week. During this time no major issues with pain, the odd painful knee/tight muscle, nothing that wouldn't go away with a couple of days rest.
I was running in a pair of Vans trail shoes, advertised as trail shoes in any case. Everyone I met who runs said 'you can't run in those' so about 2 weeks ago I got a pair of New Balance Fuelcells. Since then I have pretty horrific shin pain. It doesn't quite match the descriptions of shin splints (or the fancy name for it) I read online. I feel like I've been kicked hard repeatedly in the centre of each shin, fine at rest, painful walking and especially climbing stairs. I cannot touch a part of either leg that causes the pain, there's no tender spot.
I'm tempted to blame the new shoes, but I also have upped both my mileage and my pace recently. I feel I definitely can't run now, and it doesn't seem to be getting better with rest. Panicking as I've been enjoying it so much, it's been totally transformative.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. M 35 77kg 5"7
