Two Irish sisters get seperated on a boat to america

Hi this is driving me crazy this book is set maybe during the second world war and follows two sisters one called Annie ot Anne- somethibg who get seperated Annie goes to america is pregnant gets adopted by this couple where the dad is really nice and the mum only really wants the baby when she realises the girls pregnant so kicks her out then she becomes an actress is really good and married someone rich then becomes a film star but prefers the stage meanwhile the other one married this guy i think called tommy who's a policeman leads a much less glamorous life and maybe has kids with him but then he dies i think umm that might be all i can remember maybe annie's husband is called Herb? or begins with an H anyway but they're not really into each other they're just co stars n she's already living with them so it makes sense to marry - the herb guys dad is really rich n gives advice to her adoptive dad about the walllstreet crash so he doesn't go under (wait so maybe it's not set in ww2 then? idk) that is all i can think of pls helpppp !!
