Feeling really stuck getting HRT and don't know what to do...
hi... I'm currently 18 and am desperately seeking HRT to transition, but I feel increasingly out of options. I live in NJ (thankfully a mostly accepting state), am not "out" to anybody (all of my family is ridiculously transphobic), and don't have easy access to transportation. I'm still under my parents' health insurance, so I think I'd have to pay out of pocket for HRT.
Really the only plan I could think of was disguising a solo trip to NYC for a day as a visit to an NYC Planned Parenthood. But, making the appointment on the phone, I was told that it would cost ~$600, which doesn't even include the actual HRT, and which I definitely can't afford (the most i can do is like $200-300, which I thought would be the price given a few other posts I saw for uninsured planned parenthood visits but I guess not anymore). The person on the phone told me about sliding-scale stuff that I really didn't understand; I don't currently have a job (I'm going to college next school year) and I'm still living at home, so I don't know what documentation I would need to make me able to get sliding scale pricing without getting my parents involved.
I'm really at a loss, especially given the current times. Does anyone have ideas on how I could proceed?
