What would have been your ideal season finale?
SPOILERS.
I just finished the series finale, and while it was okay, I think it could’ve been more meaningful if it were darker. Hear me out.
Wilson should have died during the extreme chemo, and House should’ve committed suicide.
I understand why the writers did not go nearly as dark. It’s just not that kind of show and a lot of people would have been very upset with the ending taking such a turn.
But I think, had Wilson died from the chemo right there in House’s vicinity, especially after House promised not to call an ambulance for him, it would have signified how quick life can change. Wilson seemed perfectly healthy just a couple days prior, yet was lying there lifeless. It would have showed the fragility of life.
House has an interesting character and his reaction to such a tragedy would have been interesting to see. House, within the span of just a few days, would suffer the loss of the only thing he really had. House thought of himself living in misery, but he was never alone. When House was hallucinating, he had Cuddy and Wilson. He had many people care for him. But over the course of the series, he lost everything. By the end, he was alone. He lost Cuddy, Dominica, 13, Masters, Cameron, Kutner, Amber, Lucas, Alvie, his father. And now he lost Wilson.
He would have suffered the couple days after Wilson’s death. That may be an understatement. He would have tried to find out why this happened. Why Wilson had such a fate. Why he didn’t call the ambulance. Whether the last words that Wilson spoke, regarding House deserving what Wilson was going through, were true.
And finally, House would have ended it. He would have concluded that internal “nothing” was better than the life he led.
However I don’t believe House would have abandoned his promise to 13, I can’t imagine a loophole around that.
