COVID True Story

In 2018, we returned to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia because I needed to get admission to a university, and it was becoming difficult to continue my education in Saudi Arabia. So, everyone except Abu came to Pakistan. Initially, we lived in a rented house in Gulberg. Then, in 2019, at Abu's insistence, we decided to buy a house and started looking for one.

Finding a house wasn't too difficult. An agency showed us three or four houses according to our preference, and we quite liked one of them. This house was in the North Karachi 11B area. The house was good, but some renovation work was necessary. This work was completed in a month or two, and in November 2009, we moved into that house.

Within a few days, news of COVID started spreading, and gradually the situation became so serious that a lockdown was imposed. Of course, we didn't have the kind of strict lockdown that other countries had, but we were a bit timid, especially our mother was strict that no one should go out unnecessarily. The reason for this was that Ammi was alone to manage all of us siblings, and if anyone got seriously ill, it would have been very difficult.

The layout of the house we moved into was such that there was a ground floor, a first floor above it, and an empty roof on top. During this period, we mostly stayed on the first floor. The ground floor was only used for the kitchen; some items were kept in the other rooms. When we became permanently confined to the house due to COVID, I started cleaning the house's roof.

There was also a room on the roof that had no items in it, but upon opening the room, there was such a strange smell inside that I left its door and windows permanently open at that time. Despite cleaning, the room had a strong smell for a week or two. After cleaning the roof and the room, I decided to live in that room. This was because, due to the quarantine, all siblings were constantly at home, and I was disturbed while studying. I shifted my belongings to the room, laid a mattress on the floor, placed a table on one side, put a clothes cupboard in one corner, and that's how most of my time started passing in that room. In the beginning, everything was completely normal, except that I couldn't sleep. I mostly spent my time playing games on the computer, listening to songs, watching movies, all the time was spent in the room. The first strange thing I noticed was that whenever I was playing a game on the computer, with headphones on, and my entire attention was on the game, I would suddenly feel the presence of someone behind me, or rather, in the room. This feeling was so intense that I would repeatedly turn around to look. Sometimes this feeling was so strong that I would get scared and move away from the computer. Besides this, often after two or three in the morning, whenever I was sleeping or even awake, I would hear rustling sounds from the room's walls. One night, it happened that the room's ceiling, which was...
