He got what he wanted and left. Why do I feel so stupid?

So… I’m not even sure where to post this but I feel like I just need to get it out somewhere. Maybe someone’s been through the same thing and can tell me how to stop feeling like such an idiot.

I was seeing this guy for about a month. We met through friends, started talking every day, texting all the time. He was charming, funny, said all the right things. He kept telling me how different I was, how I made him feel something he hadn’t felt in years, how he just wanted to take things slow and “do it right this time.”

We went on a few dates, nothing happened at first. We’d kiss, cuddle, talk for hours. He’d tell me how much he liked just being around me, how he didn’t want to rush. And honestly? That made me trust him even more. I really thought — okay, maybe he actually likes me, maybe this isn’t just about sex for once.

Then one night, after dinner and a couple drinks, it happened. We ended up at his place, and I don’t regret sleeping with him — that’s not the point. The point is… everything changed after that.

The next morning, he was polite but distant. Said he was “busy” when I texted him a few days later. Then stopped responding altogether. It’s been over a week now. Nothing. Not even an excuse, not even a lie. Just silence.

And what’s worse is that I knew. Deep down I knew this was a possibility. I’ve been through this before. I told myself not to get attached. But he made it feel different. He acted different.

And now I feel used. Embarrassed. Angry at him — but mostly angry at myself.

Why does this hurt so much when I knew what this was? Why do I keep falling for guys like this?

Has anyone actually figured out how to spot them before it’s too late? Or how to stop caring when they disappear?

Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
