My 12 year old lucy was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy about a year and a half ago.  It started slow at first, not jumping as well,  some accidents here and there etc. But recently things have gotten a lot worse. She almost never makes it outside to go potty because she just simply doesn't know when she has to go. I take her out all the time but until she is actively pooping she just can't feel when she has to. While she makes a mess at least once a day I don't mind, it's not her fault. She's also have a much harder time getting around we've tried therapy and an animal chiropractor but nothing really seems to be working. I have to help her stand up she can't get up more than one or two stairs on her own. With all that being said, she's incredibly healthy otherwise. We've had blood work done exams etc and from her back legs up to her nose she's perfectly healthy.  She doesn't seem to be in pain but I can tell some days she's frustrated with her mobility issues. She's always been the calmest dog and to be honest never really super active so I know she doesn't mind laying around most of the day. She eats well, she still gets excited to see me, and she still gets happy when it's time to go outside. The truth is im really just struggling with the decision to continue to push on or to maybe just let her go... I'm 27 and again she's 12, she's been my bestfriend and been there for a lot of hard times in my life so sometimes I think I'm being selfish for making her struggle with her mobility. But then I go back to the fact that she's healthy and alert. I'm stuck, I feel it's not fair to keep her going through this but then I feel it's not fair to put her down when she's so healthy otherwise. Sorry for the novel but I would love some input from other dog owners that may have experienced a similar situation. Thank you if you took the time to read all this.
