Been taking low-pay, high-mileage orders just to call and ask customers if they realized the restaurant was 18+ miles away... Turns out, they do. They also know drivers only get $3-$5. They just don't care.
This is a tough truth for a lot of delivery drivers to accept: customers do know the distance of their orders—and they’re fully aware the driver is being offered $3 or $4 to drive up to 18 miles to deliver it.
And they simply do. not. care.
These aren't short hops across town. These are multi-city deliveries—three towns away sometimes. And yet the tips are still $2. The base pay is still $3.25. And the entitlement is still sky-high.
One woman even asked, “Well, where’s a closer restaurant?” as if that justified it. She knew damn well I was being paid crumbs to drive across counties—but it didn't matter. As long as she got her food, my time and labor meant nothing.
So I cancelled. Every single one.
Then DoorDash decided to punish me for it. I got hit with a screen saying I had to “contact support to cancel,” like they actually believed I’d take that $3.25 bait. And when I refused?
They had the nerve to threaten my completion rate.
Imagine that: a billion-dollar company upset because I refused to eat 18 miles of gas for pennies.
This isn’t just a gig anymore. It’s a game of who’s willing to be exploited the most — and I’m done playing.
