parents' proof of citizenship

hello! my father is listed as illegitimate on my birth certificate (meaning he's not acknowledged in it), plus he passed away 7 years ago. do I still need to provide his proof of citizenship and/or supplementary documents such as his death certificate even though being illegitimate?
