Christian ads and “redemptive” stories ive seen are amusing sometimes.
Almost every “I was saved” story you see in ads is about addiction. And while I do question the often predatory tactics, I can still respect that some people genuinely want to help addicts get better.
But I can’t help finding it a little amusing. Why? Because addiction is probably one of the only “bad” things they can openly use in these redemption stories without getting massive backlash. Try swapping in a serial killer or a predator with a similar “I found the light” narrative, and people wouldn’t just ignore, or go “aww” they’d be rightfully irate. No one wants to hear that story.
Now that I’m thinking about it though, you’d think they’d also go for kleptomania or others like that. If you don’t know, that’s basically an addiction to stealing. Yes im aware that’s oversimplified
