AWS announced a batch of “AI Agent tools” — one name I didn’t recognize was Tacnode. How does it compare to Timescale, Citus, etc.?

Discussion

Caught part of the AWS Summit keynote where they introduced a new “AI Agents & Tools” section in the Marketplace. A few names were familiar (like Stripe, Confluent), but one that stood out just because I hadn’t heard of it before was Tacnode.

It was listed under API-based agent tools, and from the Marketplace description it looks like it’s Postgres-compatible and aimed at real-time or agent-style workloads. Claims stuff like:

  • Streaming ingestion and updates
  • Incremental materialized views
  • Some kind of hybrid row/column storage
  • Vector support?

Anyone know what this is or how it compares to tools like:

  • TimescaleDB for time series
  • Citus for distributed scaling
  • pgvector for similarity search
  • or alternatives like ClickHouse / DuckDB?

Just curious whether it’s doing something fundamentally different or just packaging familiar patterns in a new way.
