Should I end a 2-year relationship due to religious differences, even if we still love each other?
Problem/Goal:
I’m a 25F in a relationship with a 30M. Our different religions are causing serious issues, and we’re unsure whether to continue despite loving each other.
Context:
We’ve been together for almost 2 years, but we always knew our religion difference was a big issue. Recently, we’ve grown more distant due to our busy schedules (I’m working and studying, and he’s working). When I visited his family, they pressured me to convert, and since I refused, I feel unwelcome. This hurts especially since I hoped to have a close relationship with his family (my father already passed away). On my side, my family has always welcomed him.
Previous Attempts:
We discussed ending the relationship after two years if neither of us was willing to convert. We’re now near that deadline but still can’t let go. We’ve been in conflict again for 5 days now. Part of me wants to end it to stop prolonging the pain, but I’m also thinking if he can handle the breakup emotionally. Meanwhile, I’m overwhelmed — I study, work, and support my family.
Question:
Should I let go now, even if I still care? Or try to fight for something we already know may never work long-term?
