Can somebody ELI5 why we are even doing anything on Kepler? Can't we just like leave?

Seriously, what's our objective? Is something threatening Sol? I see Vex and Eliksni fighting literally paces away from Caldera, they don't seem to be bothering anybody but each other. Orin can figure out her own existential crisis and what allegiance do we owe to Lodi?

I have played a few missions and don't feel story invested, at all. "Ritual of Maintenance," is why I'm necessary? I'm not here to explore a new guardian power (sorry, all the different kepler gimmicks are basically moot if a guardian could simply break a pane of glass and are environmental mechanics, not part of our build), nothing that I am aware of is threatening me and the only orders I have been given are to sabotage and terrorize an exiled society. I saw Maya Sundaresh, are we here to finish the job from episode echoes?
