dating to break up…

tonight i was made aware that my boyfriend has had the expectation that we are going to break up when he graduates.

i (21 F - today’s my birthday) have been together with my boyfriend (20 M) officially for three and a half months and we were seeing eachother for three and a half months prior to making our relationship official. we’ve had our ups and downs, but lately i’ve began to feel insecure in our relationship because it seems to me like a lot of my little behaviors annoy him and he gets upset by my actions very easily. i am also a more touchy and sexual than him, and of course i never do or attempt anything without his explicit consent, but i have needs that sometimes are not met. he is conventionally attractive and i am a little on the chubby side (im still cute tho!), and this makes me feel undesirable. he is a rising senior at the university we attend where i am a sophomore/junior (took a gap year ish between high school and college).

he is visiting for a few days because his hometown (ie where he lives over the summer and will live again after he graduates) is about 4 hours away. we had a great day today, he was making me laugh so hard and knew just the right things to say when i was upset about an event that we were going to be late to. my heart fluttered and i thought about telling him “i love you” for the first time. later in the night, we were having a heated discussion about our relationship when he said to me, “well what did you think was gonna happen when i graduate?” my heart skipped a beat. i feel like i am definitely a very headstrong and independent woman and i do not need a man/am not male centered, but i was hurt by his words. i still have a handful of semesters left of undergrad, and i am a premed student, and don’t necessarily get to pick where i will attend med school. i definitely didn’t feel he was gonna be the father of my children or anything, but i didn’t wanna limit him to just another boyfriend. i will always leave any current relationship i have open to the possibility of being long term, but it seemed to me like he’s had this plan from the beginning. we talked and fought and cried together, but it feels like nothing was truly accomplished by the conversation. i’m typing this at 4:39 am while he is asleep next to me.

i don’t really want to break up, but at what point do the conflicts outweigh the pros? i want to tell him i just wanna see where things go and i wish he would too, not have any preconceived notions or anything. im just afraid to upset him and dont know how to discuss this because he isn’t the most communicative and open with his feelings.

tldr: my boyfriend of a couple months told me he assumed we’d break up after about a year of dating. sometimes we don’t see eye to eye, and we have shed some tears over each other. how do i come to a solution/talk it out with him? is it worth it?
