🆘 SSA Appointment Tomorrow – Do I need a formal job offer to get SSN under OPT?

Hi everyone! I’m an F-1 student currently on OPT (recent grad from UPenn), and I already have my EAD card in hand.

I scheduled my SSA appointment for tomorrow to get my Social Security Number, but I’m a bit stressed because I don’t currently have a job offer.

From what I’ve read, some people say the EAD alone is enough under post-completion OPT, and others say you still need a formal written job offer. I’ve seen mixed stories depending on the SSA office.

🔹 Has anyone here gotten their SSN while on OPT without a job offer letter?
🔹 Will they turn me away if I just show up with my EAD, passport, visa, I-20, etc.?

Any recent experiences or advice would be massively appreciated. I really don’t want to waste the appointment or get denied. 🙏
